Welcome to the Vegan Athlete blog….
I am a 26 year old vegan/alkalarian/mainly raw foodist, I eat this way because I believe it to be healthiest for the body. It also seems that whatever is healthiest for the body is healthiest for the planet, which gives me a better conscience.
I heard a vegetarian driving a hummer is more environmentally friendly than a meat eater driving a smart car!
My aim is to use my body as a human guinea pig and find out if I can go from being a non-athlete, to a triathlete in a short space of time on a plant based diet. I have been modifying diet for nearly 3 years now, going from a meat eater to veggie to vegan to mainly raw. So far the benefits have been more energy, weight loss, clear skin, bright eyes and clearer thinking. Now it’s time to test it to the limit and push my body further and dispel the myths that we need animal protein to build muscle and diary to build bones. From my nutritional reading I have discovered the opposite to be true, diary and animal protein weaken the bones and muscles! It appears we have been sold a lie! This lie has been sold so well most of us believe it to be true and the only reason we have been lied to is to make money out of us!
Working in health care I’ve seen hundreds of people who are sick and tired, I often ask them about their diet and most of the time it hasn’t even occurred to them that it could be the thing making them sick. I know I do not want to live a life with zero energy and ill health because of some short term fixes like caffeine, alcohol and ice cream.
I aim to live life to the full and spread the word that our western diet is making us sick!!
